TMR North Coast: Flood Remediation – Package 2 (2024-2025)

(DFRA Event 22F/I – Slope Remediation Treatments) 

The $12m flood recovery package encompassed 56 separate work sites of varying scopes/treatments for effective Repair and Resilience across a large footprint of South East QLD, with locations extending North to Kin Kin, West to Esk/Kilcoy and South to the Samford Valley & Mt Glorious areas.

The works presented unique challenges to our usual road projects, requiring a number of specialist personnel and equipment for delivery (EWP’s and Rope Access Technicians for Work at Heights, Long Reach Excavators, specialist scaling, drilling & Ground Engineering personnel) in combination with expert traffic management to safely control works on the narrow, winding mountain range routes.

Scope of Work

Included a number of treatments and applications to repair and improve resilience of road verges and batters, majority occurring on steep embankment sites. The scope of works was inclusive of:

  • Scaling and excavation of slope faces
  • Installation of rockfall mesh and rock bolts/soil nails
  • Installation of erosion control matting and hydro-mulching of slopes
  • Cleaning out of table drains
  • Cleaning out of drainage culverts
  • Pavement reconstruction works involving spray sealing
  • Downslope reconstruction works involving shotcrete with soil nails, steel wire mattresses, grouted rock pitching, rockfill etc.
  • Reinstatement of Road Furniture (Guardrails and Guideposts etc.)
  • Downslope and upslope earthworks and pavement reconstruction works to facilitate slope remediation treatments.
  • Initial rock scaling works to provide safe work environment for construction crews
  • Construction of rockfall protection measures on upslope side of road including rock fall mesh with self-drilling anchors.
