Tender/Pre Contracts update
SGQ’s Joint Venture with Albem (ASJV) has continued its strong growth and presence in QLD. In February the JV was awarded the Bruce Highway (Brisbane-Gympie), Dohles Rocks Road to Anzac Avenue upgrade (Stage 1). located between Sunshine Coast and Brisbane including;
- A new northbound entry ramp from Dohles Rocks Rd to the Bruce H’way, extending to Anzac Avenue interchange exit ramp, as an auxiliary lane on the highway
- A new southbound exit ramp from the Bruce Highway to Dohles Rocks Rd, extending from Anzac Avenue interchange entry ramp as an auxiliary lane on the highway
- Implementation of new ramp metering signals, upgrades and signalised intersections on Dohles Rocks Rd, modifications to existing intersections and installation of new and upgraded noise barriers to manage traffic and improve access to the highway.
The Project will require a dedicated project team in the region through 2025/2026. A massive congratulations to the tendering team involved.
Other opportunities continue to present including multiple bridges, major road upgrades, rail & civil projects as well flood infrastructure remediation packages across QLD and Northern NSW.

Project Updates
Townsville Connection Road Stage 2 & 4 (ASJV)
Townsville Connection Road St 2-4 continued to progress despite massive and ongoing weather disruptions. Over the period the project incurred;
- 150mm during first 2 weeks of December
- 320mm in the last week of January
- 1200mm of rainfall across an 18-day period (Jan 26-Feb15)
Construction activities and milestones from November to March
- Import, placement, and compaction of approximately 13,720m³ of material in Stockpiles 1 & 22.
- Significant progress in headwalls, wingwalls, culverts and 594m² of footpath poured
- Topsoil preparation, placement of progenics and hydromulch application
- The water treatment plant became operational, and further works on pre-treatment primary settlement tanks commenced, a second Water Treatment Plant was installed in November 2024 and commissioned in January 2025.
- In February 2025, the plant treated a total of 291m³ of water, with 60m³ re-used for dust suppression
Weather Impact: Extreme wet weather events from January into February 2025 caused significant delays. The project area received over 1,200mm of rainfall, leading to widespread flooding and substantial impacts on the community
Flooding: The Ross River prevented the project area from releasing water, resulting in roads within the project boundary being inundated for extended periods
A combination of both flood recovery and permanent works were achieved following February’s flood event, before the second half of March saw a second extreme rainfall period.
From the 10th of March, rainfall exceeded 900mm in 2 weeks, with 200mm recorded on a single day. This resulted in widespread flooding and the closure of Stuart Drive, Mervyn Crossman Drive and Fairfield Waters Drive effectively shutting down site operations. March provided varied weather conditions with the first half allowing works progression until a second extreme rainfall period significantly disrupted operations.
Townsville Connection Road Stage 3 – Bowen Road Bridge Duplication (ASJV)
November, December, and January were productive months albeit shorter working periods in December and January; however, the project did experience wet weather-related setbacks, which impacted works in December and the final week of January throughout the project site.

Construction activities and milestones included
November to January;
- Completion of Pier Headstock concrete pours
- Continuation of Piling Operations
- First Girder landing access installed with First span of girders landed for Span 4
February
- Nil permanent works due to flooding (Site shutdown 31/01/to 17/02
- Working platform rectification works for scoured out and non-compliant areas
- Flood water pumping and cleaning of reinforcement cages and piles
March
- Headstock Pours continued
- Piles Shaft Pours and liner works continued
