Torbanlea Pialba Road Upgrade and Bridge Replacement, Hervey Bay, Wide-Bay Qld (2022-2024)

The $39m project involved Road widening and realignment of approximately 6.3km of Torbanlea – Pialba Road including all pavement and drainage works, lighting and realignment of local roads and property accesses, as well as construction of the new bridge across Beelbi Creek. The project was completed for the Department of Transport and Main Roads.

Scope of Work

Roadworks Construction and Upgrades:

  • Clear & grubbing
  • Major service relocations – Water Services (up to 450 diam)
  • Service protection works
  • Assist Telstra relocation works on site
  • Substantial bulk earthworks
  • R&R unsuitable and subgrade improvements
  • Some wick drains installed
  • RCP & RCBC culverts
  • Extensive unbound pavements
  • Subsoil drainage & K&C
  • Bitumen seal & AC works
  • Extensive guardrails and fencing
  • Concrete pavings
  • Extensive landscaping
  • Street lighting & Stand-alone Solar (PV) Power installations
  • Ergon Energy: construct access road and pads – incl. some design work 

New Bridge Construction:

  • 15 x 900diam. bored piers
  • Cast in-situ headstocks
  • Precast deck units (4 x 19m spans)
  • Transverse stressing of decks
  • Cast in-situ kerbs and parapets, relieving slabs
  • Fabricate and install bridge railings
  • HD asphalt to deck
  • Services relocations & protection works (water mains and services)
