This was a $9.5m project for the Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) involving construction of a new bridge, demolition of the existing bridge and construction of approximately 400m of new roadworks approaches. The works were delivered via a Joint Venture with Albem.
Key scope of works:
Bridge Works
- Cast-In-Place Piles
- Bridge Substructure
- Prestressed Concrete Deck & Kerb Units, with Transverse Stressing
- Protective Treatments
Road Works
- Earthworks
- Drainage Culverts
- Subsurface Drainage
- Protective Treatments
- Unbound Pavements
- Sprayed Bituminous Surfacing
- Road Lighting
- Landscaping
Notable aspects of the project:
- The contract was won through an ETI (Early Tenderer Involvement) tender process
- Coordination of logistics for remote works
- Construction of a piling-rig access platform across the Maranoa River bed, including installation of low flow culverts
Value engineering options identified by the JV included the following adopted measures:
- SGQ / Albem were very proactive in the ETI process to determine the most efficient design – including removal of pile-caps and substitution with larger piles that transitioned into columns, straight up into headstocks
- By agreement, works commenced without finalised 100% documentation, to expedite works
