SGQ Sunshine Coast Update – October  2024

Wins & Prospects:

Energex Access Tracks & Pads – Bells Creek

SGQ have been awarded the project and are currently going through final project planning operations with Energex. The project includes the construction of approximately 4.7km of access tracks and 24,000m2 of pole/structural pads spanning from Meridan Plains down to Aura. SGQ will be responsible for driving 66 pile liners at each pad location to allow Energex to install their precast power poles. The liners range from 1.2m to 2.4m in diameter and will be driven up to 11m below ground. Early Works are anticipated to commence once approved, toward end of 2024 and continue through into the first half of 2025.

Other Achievements:

Congratulations to Josh Parker for completing his traffic management design accreditation with DTMR. We look forward to his dynamic, highly effective traffic guidance schemes on future road works projects

Project Spotlight

Eumundi Noosa Road Upgrade (Widening and Centerline Treatment)

Client: Transport and Main Roads

The Project Team have progressed works at a rapid rate throughout July-October. Works are now thankfully well and truly out of the flood prone ground with bulk earthworks and culvert extensions complete. Currently, the project is progressing through the lightly bound gravel pavements with focus switched toward commencing asphalt works in late November. The project is currently on track to wrap up in January, approximately 5 weeks ahead of schedule.

Due to an effective & collaborative relationship with the client, the delivery team have been able to optimise the pavement design, resulting in significant cost savings to TMR – in order of $3.5m. Consequently, TMR have instructed SGQ to complete an additional 400m of treatment works through the Lenehan’s Road intersection. This is a testament to the hard work and effort put in by the team to date and reinforces our reputation as a preferred client to the North Coast TMR branch for the quality of product & service provided.

The project has also demonstrated good feedback both from increased TMR Client Inspections and a Federal (OFSC) Safety Audit, finding the site has been managed to a high WHS standard thus far.

DRFA Pkg 2 (Disaster Recovery / Flood Resilience)

Client: Transport and Main Roads

The Project Team has progressed works throughout July-October inclusive of a large portion of the original remediation site scopes, including some 55+ locations across South East QLD (Including Esk-Kilcoy, Mt Glorious – Samford, Yandina-Coolum and Brisbane Woodford Road Sites).

To date the project completion has included over 3,300m of Rock Drilling and Anchor Install and 5000sqm of coir mesh treatment along with other remediation works. A majority of the Rock Mesh Installation works is now underway.

Current performance has resulted in increases to the current package of works, with a number of new sites offered (including larger Bruce highway sections) priced and won by the project team during delivery.

The project has had both WHS and Environmental Audits conducted by TMR and their 3rd party consultants throughout the period, with great feedback and results demonstrating the efforts from supervisors Jorel Jamieson, Al Hunter, Jason Slocombe, as well as SGQ’s labour and contract personnel.
