SGQ Fraser Coast Update – October 2024

SGQ remain an integral part of the community within the Fraser Coast, building communities and infrastructure throughout Hervey Bay, Burrum Heads, Maryborough and greater surrounds.

Region Updates

Project Wins:

SGQ have been successful in award of below projects and packages across the Fraser Coast, with a number of other opportunities currently in the pipeline.

Maryborough/Hervey Bay Rd & Pialba/Burrum Heads Rd I’section Upgrade:

The Department of Main Roads accepted SGQ’s tender for the Early works (Stage 1) network upgrade. The works will be Managed by Karen Edgerton and her team, scheduled to be delivered approx. mid-way through 2025. The package includes;

  • PUP electrical civil works
  • Water Main (including under bore) and Sewer main relocation
  • Retaining Wall and Noise Barrier construction
  • Boundary Realignment and Landscaping Works

The Glades Estate – Stage 7

Our happy client has accepted SGQ’s tender for the next stage of The Glades Estate (23 Lot extension of the Residential Subdivision). The works will be Managed by Rod Hartland and Site Supervised by Dylon Chardon, scheduled to be delivered in March 2025. The package includes all Earthworks, Stormwater Drainage, Water & Sewer main Installation, Granular pavement (Bitumen sealing works & Asphalt surfacing) Minor Concrete works and Landscaping

Fraser Vista – Stage 1C

Our client has instructed SGQ to complete this final substage at Fraser Vista (Stage 1) after increasing interest in land sales. The works will be Managed by Rod Hartland and Site Supervisor Adam Cuffe. The package includes Earthworks, Stormwater Drainage, Water & Sewer main Installation, Granular pavement (Bitumen sealing works & Asphalt surfacing) Minor Concrete works and Landscaping

The prime feature of this rural residential subdivision is a challenging 3 x 900mm culvert crossing downstream of a fully planted open drain, on fractured rock in designated parkland. We are anticipating Op Works approval for Stage 3 and the remaining Bulk Earthworks in the November.

Dolphin Waters

Construction of all civil aspects of stages 9-14 was awarded in November, and will see the Burrum work crews busy at Dolphin Waters until June 2025 at the earliest.

Project Spotlight

Doolong Road (Vantage Hervey Bay – over 55’s)

SGQ continued great progress for Avid Property Group, in construction of the “Vantage Hervey Bay” over 55’s retirement/residential development.

Ash Schefe and Gary Smith have delivered on remaining scopes inclusive of concrete pavements & earthworks with only minor variation works continuing.  The site compound has been shifted to Burrum and our site presence at this stage is only minimal.

The official Opening of the Sales office for the development occurred in July and sales have been in line with expectations, however not quick enough to warrant the team remaining on site to continue with future stages at present.  It will most likely be the middle of 2025 before the team is required to reestablish and continue works.

During the final handover inspection, the Building Manager commented that it was the best presented site he had seen, which is a testament to the hard work of Gary and the team.

FCRC Anderson Avenue

The Pavement Reconstruction project for FCRC reached Practical Completion on 4th October and was the first for Dylon Chardon as Supervisor. Works commenced on Monday 8th July and PC was achieved 3 weeks ahead of time.

Works incurred several construction challenges including:

  • Continuous groundwater following the existing drainage alignment from beyond the project extents
  • Discovery and safe removal of approx. 100m of unplanned asbestos drainage pipe
  • Replacement of earthware sewerline through an existing drainage pit
  • Replacement of drainage and installation of 500mm wrapped rock subgrade adjacent to existing power poles and stays
  • Discovery of an underground cavity below pavement from scouring caused by failure of the existing drainage network

Well done Dylon Chardon, Dane Hardie and the rest of the HB team for completion of the works.

Lake Point (Northshore Toogoom) Residential Subdivision

Rod Hartland and Supervisor Dane Hardie have completed the 24 Lot Residential Subdivision for a new client. The project, situated in the highly sort after remaining waterfront area, included completion of final asphalt and line marking in October.

This was another favorable project constructed predominately on a sand substratum allowing seamless construction with minimal disruption from wet weather. A tidy project, although on the smaller side, some might say the perfect size.

Dolphins Waters Estate

Ash Schefe, Reece Camin & the Burrum heads SGQ crew have continued delivery of the Dolphin Waters Estate bulk earthworks for Stages 9-18 and this month clocked over the milestone of 200,000m3 worth of fill removed from the lake with approximately 40,000m3 left to remove.

Additionally, construction of all civil aspects of stages 9-14 was awarded this month and will see the Burrum works busy at Dolphin Waters until June 2025 at the earliest and possibly longer, pending the rate of land sales within the estate.

The rapid expansion of Burrum Heads has brought about the need for a considerable upgrade to the sewer network, and Dane Hardie and Dylon Chardon have been tasked with the installation of approx. 2km of sewer rising main and a considerable quantity of deep, gravity sewer which the team have made a very productive start on at the time of this update.

SGQ remains committed to achieving successful delivery of the development for Australian Land Co, providing generous block sizes shaped by lake water frontages in the picturesk Burrum Heads locality.
