SGQ Fraser Coast Update – July 2024

Project Spotlight 

Boundary Road 

Karen Edgerton, Peter Salsbury, Adam Cuffe and the team on our Boundary Road Extension Project are nearing the final stages of completion after an ongoing 2 year, 8 month stint.  

The sun is well and truly setting on this one with final works including Wearing Course, Signals, Line Marking, Signage, Road Furniture & Landscaping well underway. The project is expecting to commence demobilization of the site office in July.   

Progressing through delivery since November 2021, the major road extension for FCRC is now anticipating an official opening in late July / Early August of 2024 (subject to external commissioning), which will provide a greatly improved thoroughfare for local traffic.    

The project boasts a successful delivery despite a myriad of challenges and extensive scope items: 

  • Incurring over 3m of rainfall to site through delivery 
  • 70,000+ m3 of earthworks removed from site 
  • 4km of drainage pipe and 1km of box culverts (inc. 160 drainage pits) 
  • 5.5km conduits installed 
  • 70,000+ tonnes of roadbase delivered 
  • 25,000+ tonnes of rock delivered 
  • 8,000+ m3 of concrete placed in: 
  • 13,000m2 footpath 
  • 4000m2 median infill  
  • 6,800m2 concrete drain 
  • 10km of kerb 
  • 25,000 tonnes Asphalt placed    

It has truly been a sustained and fantastic effort by all involved onsite to get this one over the line – all should feel proud of what has been achieved.   

Doolong Road (Vantage Hervey Bay – over 55’s) 

In 2024, SGQ commenced work with new Client – Avid Property Group, in construction of their “Vantage Hervey Bay” over 55’s retirement/residential development. Avid Property Group is one of Australia’s largest residential developers offering ongoing prospects across our regions.  

Ash and the team have been working on completion of awarded scopes in Stage 1 (All Civil Earthworks and Infrastructure) and Stages 2-3 (Bulk Earthworks). Key progress has been made on required earthworks, stormwater, sewer, water main, retaining walls and concrete pavements (Stage 1 boasts around 7000 sqm of concrete)    

The Handover of the Sales Office Location and Initial Lots was achieved on time for the official “Sod Turning” opening event on 16th May – attended by key Avid Property and Council representatives. The official Opening of the Sales office for the development occurring Monday 1st July.    

Current Scope is scheduled to be finished around September with a great opportunity for additional works on next Stages pushing into 2025 (further Civil and Roadwork construction) 

Dolphins Waters Estate 

Reece Camin & the Burrum heads SGQ crew have continued delivery of the Dolphin Waters Estate (Stages 6-8) throughout 2024 thus far.    

The 57 Lot Residential Estate including all Civil Earthworks, Infrastructure and Community Lake is anticipated for completion toward end of 2024, with 60,000m3 of cut and fill complete and an anticipated 100,000m3 left to go.      

SGQ remains committed to achieving successful delivery of the development for Australian Land Co, providing generous block sizes shaped by lake water frontages in the picturesk Burrum Heads locality.   

The Glades Estate  

From Mid 2023, Rod Hartland, Gary Smith and the SGQ team have been working diligently on completion of the Glades Estate (Stages 4-6) for Client – Clembury. The greenfield residential development currently boasts 108 sizable blocks within Stages 4-6 for prospective home owners in Kawungan, Hervey Bay.  

Works are currently in final completion stages with the remainder of concrete footpaths and landscaping in delivery. Completed works have including all bulk earthworks, underground sewer, watermain, stormwater, culvert installation & pavement scopes, as well as key infrastructure to support two onsite environmental protection areas.  

Despite the project experienced considerable inclement weather challenges, it is set to be delivered on time, boding well for SGQ’s prospects for future stages within the development. 

The Project has included:        

  • Approx 13Ha of clearing 
  • 13,737m3 topsoil (Strip & Respread) 
  • 24,885m3 cut to Fill 
  • 14,940m3 Imported fill 
  • 7,710m3 granular pavement material 
  • 11745m2 prime & asphalt 
  • 1705m stormwater drainage (range – 150mm UPVC to 5/1200x300mm RCBC) 
  • 3,300m K&C 
  • 2,015m2 footpaths 
  • 2,250m sewer reticulation & 50 manholes 
  • 1,684m watermains 
  • 400m Block retaining wall (Max 2.0m high) 
  • 250 street trees 
  • 4250m2 turf 
  • 66,000m2 drill seeding 

Other News  

The Hervey Bay Depot has undertaken extensive investment into the upgrade of security systems with a modern fleet of heat detecting CCTV cameras connected to an externally controlled and monitored alarm system.     

SGQ have purchased a trailer mounted hydro/jet cleaner allowing us to self-perform final quality preparation of installed pipe & culvert networks. The machine can generate up to 400psi and SGQ workers involved in its operation will undergo specific training with an RTO in July. 

New Additions

SGQ have welcomed new Starter Brian Farley (Grader – plant operator) to our Hervey Bay Operations.   

We also want to extend congratulations to Paul Hilton and his family on their new bundle of joy as well as Tim Rhode’s for the recent birth of his grandchild.
