Project Spotlight
Dolphins Waters Estate
Construction of all civil aspects for stages 9-14 was awarded to SGQ in November 2024 and will see the Burrum work crews busy at Dolphin Waters until late 2025.
The bulk earthworks component of the Dolphin projects is very quickly drawing to completion with close to 260,000m3 of material being moved from the lake to fill areas, with only about 15,000m3 left to shift. Unfortunately, the rainfall received during March has been enough to top up the water table and bring the lake’s levels to capacity…April likely involve consistent dewatering in order to recommence earthworks in May.
The rising water table levels has also halted sewer installation works, which has seen Dane Hardie & crew shifting equipment and efforts to the Bloom project until progress can be resumed.
On a positive note, Reece Camin and crew have just completed the realignment of the stormwater network within Stages 9-11, opening up road and subsequent footpath works to keep the team gainfully employed until such a time as the lake water level is addressed.
Talk of continuation on with future stages is still positive, with sales remaining strong and there is a high level of confidence that the crew will see out the year on the current development.

Maryborough/Hervey Bay Rd – Pialba/Burrum Heads Rd Int. – Stage 1
SGQ’s tender for the Early works (Stage 1) network upgrade was accepted in late 2024. The package includes;
- PUP electrical civil works
- Water Main (including under bore) and Sewer main relocation
- Retaining Wall and Noise Barrier construction
- Boundary Realignment and Landscaping Works
The project has faced delays from continuous wet weather and pending design confirmations, impacting much of the scheduled work. Despite these challenges, significant progress has been made.
The sewer rising main works, which form a critical part of the early-stage program (including associated variations), commenced with major night works on March 2nd.
These works aimed to complete the road crossing and reopen the road before peak daytime traffic. The sewer rising main is now well underway and is expected to be completed and commissioned by end of April – early May. This milestone makes way for subsequent phases, including construction of the combined retaining wall – acoustic fence, and culvert extensions.
Design work for the HDD electrical component is progressing steadily. On-site works are anticipated to begin in May, which will allow for the continuation of electrical trenching scopes.
If all goes to plan and subject to coordination with relevant authorities, project completion is projected for late 2025.

The Glades Estate – Stage 7
Our happy client continued SGQ’s involvement for Stage 7, including all Earthworks, Stormwater Drainage, Water & Sewer main Installation, Granular pavement (Bitumen sealing works & Asphalt surfacing), Concrete works and Landscaping.
After a lengthy delay (Dec-Feb), works were able to be recommenced in late February extending Practical completion to June 2025. This low lying and flat project is highly susceptible to wet weather due to its submerged outlet. Hence the delay from revised pavement design and unsuitable subgrade treatments.
Installation of piped and box culvert drainage, incorporated with a geotextile wrapped rock subgrade replacement (300-800mm thick) will be completed in mid-April. Fortunately the majority of these works were in place before more torrential rain impacted the site, predominately from Ex Tropical Cyclone Alfred (March rainfall – 540mm).
Fraser Vista – Stage 1C
Our client granted SGQ the scope to complete this final substage at Fraser Vista (Stage 1) after increasing interest in land sales.
December saw the majority of works completed however we lost the race against rain and installation of prime and asphalt was delayed until the new year. After some cleanup from weather over the Xmas break we were able to finish the surfacing and continue installation of footpaths, rock scour protections, landscaping and commissioning of water. BDG Electrical Contractors installed the cabling, pillars and poles.
All works were completed in Mid-February with only one minor defect on FCRC inspection. FCRC required handrails be installed on headwalls of the major crossroad culvert. About this same time we received certification for installation of Electrical and Comms from Ergon and NBN. Installation of the handrail was interrupted by Ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred due to hot dip galvanising in Brisbane. Off Maintenance for Stages 1A, 1B and 2A was also received.
The On Maintenance Acceptance Letter was received late March with Approval for Plan Sealing in early April allowing the assignment of titles to proceed for the last of Stage 1 and Stage 2A Lots.
As shown below, works have already commenced on Stage 3 with the construction of the 51m long 2 x 1800 x 900mm major culvert. This stage has been additionally challenging due to the stage of works being effect by weather and the proximity of the existing natural watercourse on the same alignment as our road works and drainage. Under the conditions our crews are performing a great job.
