Rockhampton Northern Access Upgrade

Rockhampton Northern Access Upgrade (RNAU), Queensland (2019 – 2021)

The $128m RNAU contract involved a major duplication of 5km of the Bruce Highway northwards through North Rockhampton suburbs, from Yeppoon Road to 400m north of Terranova Drive, working under traffic. The project was delivered for the Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR), via a SGQ-McIlwain Civil joint venture.

Scope of Work

  • Full duplication of north and southbound carriageways
  • Including on-road cycle facilities
  • Two new bridges across Limestone Creek (with driven PSC piles)
  • Two new bridges over Ramsay Creek (with cast-in-place piles) 
  • Demolition of the existing Ramsay Creek and Limestone Creek bridges
  • Re-alignment of 1.1km of Boundary Road South through undeveloped land
  • 1.6km of two new service roads 
  • Construction of three signalised intersections
  • Construction of a dual lane roundabout at Stirling Drive 
  • Liaison and Coordination of PUP Contractors
  • New stormwater and cross drainage for the length of the project
  • Road lighting throughout
  • Driveways, fencing, landscaping to affected private properties

  • Major PUP relocations & installations to co-ordinate (incl. large watermain, gas, communications, power)
  • Multiple stakeholders, businesses & residents to liaise with throughout the works – incl. TMR, Rockhampton/Livingstone Shire Council, Fitzroy Water, Telstra, NBN, Optus, APA, local residents, general public & motorists
  • Extensive environmental issues successfully managed
  • Very collaborative working with TMR throughout, enabling value-adding and enhanced project outcomes overall
