SGQ maintain an effective Environmental Management System, certified to ISO 14001, implemented throughout our operations. Multi-disciplined Staff, qualified in Environment Sciences, Management and Erosion Sediment Control (including Certified Professionals – CPESC), maintain SGQ’s expert capability.

SGQ are accredited with Business Chamber of QLD as an Eco Biz Star Partner, in recognition of efforts in reducing our impact through Energy, Water & Waste minimization. As an Eco Biz Star Partner, SGQ have an ongoing commitment to improving our water, waste and energy efficiencies. Key programs driven within SGQ to achieve targets include a focus on;
- Air Quality: Reduced emissions through investment in electric-hybrid & EU6 certified vehicles, EV charging stations powered by solar, and a modern, efficient civil earthmoving fleet.
- Water Resources: Efficient water consumption through rainwater capture & retention, use of recycled water in construction, and install of water-efficient infrastructure.
- Energy Efficiency: Rooftop solar systems at offices and mobile solar units for project sites reduce energy and direct fuel consumption, mitigating CO2 emissions.
- Waste Management: Waste reduction strategies including recycling campaigns, re-use of construction & earthwork materials & adopting paperless system strategies
Soil Quality: Certified erosion and sediment control management, as well as expert treatment of Acid Sulphate Soils, PFAS, asbestos & other ground contaminants
Emission Reduction Initiatives
SGQ has invested heavily into our direct reduction of greenhouse gases through a variety of strategies including;
- Provision of Plug-in Hybrid EV’s (PHEV) to deliver direct emission reductions from Mitsubishi’s Class Leading Electric Range
- Installation of vehicle Charging Stations at each of our Local Offices, powered by existing roof top solar systems, available to all staff, contractors and clients
- EU6-certified diesel engines: Investment into new-generation Plant and Utility Vehicles, inclusive of Australia’s first EU6-certified diesel engine drivetrains enabling AdBlue conversion of noxious nitrogen oxides (NOx) reducing vehicle emissions substantially
- Substantial modernisation of our Civil Earthmoving Fleet inclusive of the latest in advanced Excavators, Graders, Loaders, Roller Compactors & Backhoe’s from leading suppliers
We promote emission reduction through training and awareness for employees and contractors. Key initiatives include:
- Encouraging carpooling for employees living nearby.
- Hiring locally (within 120km) to reduce transport emissions.
- Managing vehicle use for ride-sharing to worksites.
- Strict maintenance schedules to optimize fuel economy and extend equipment life.
- Implementing efficient construction practices to reduce material handling, vehicle movement, and idle times.
- Minimizing air and road travel by encouraging virtual meetings.
Energy and Fuel Reduction:
SGQ office locations are equipped with rooftop solar systems, significantly reducing our carbon footprint and air pollution. Combined with daily energy-saving practices, this has led to a substantial decrease in electricity usage & Co2 emissions saved annually.
Since 2021, SGQ has partnered with SOBOS Energy and others to support our transition to renewable energy. SOBOS provides mobile hybrid solar systems, offering innovative power solutions for construction sites. Performance metrics for our solar-powered facilities are available, with detailed reports upon request.
